The Scotts Valley Unified School District makes every effort to provide appropriate technologies to support the district’s curriculum. As of June 2005, all classrooms on the four campuses were Internet ready, and all teachers have workstations to use for personal productivity and communication with families.
Schools provide additional technology access in a variety of ways. The middle school has I-carts, mobile, wireless laptop labs that can be transported to any classroom. The elementary and high schools have computer labs available for teacher and student use. There is also widespread use of alpha smart keyboards and laptops to improve student efficiency in the classroom.
The District currently receives E-rate funding to help defer the costs of our Internet connections. We also have an Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) Grant that gives a nominal amount for technology training and hardware.
Carl Guerin is the Director of Technology for the district. She can be contacted at cguerin@santacruz.k12.ca.us, or at the district office at 438-1820 x 115.
It is a challenge to maintain our current equipment and provide software and upgrades as needed. We are working on a technology plan that will address the long-term district-wide issues involved in providing appropriate technologies and maintaining them for our students and staff. The plan will also address instructional issues: What do we expect students to learn? How can technology support those objectives? What are teachers expected to know about incorporating technologies into instruction? How do we accomplish this with limited resources?
As we continue to search for ways to provide appropriate instructional technologies, we are very fortunate to have cooperation from our parent groups, as well as community business, to support our upgrade plans. Watch this site and school newsletters for updates on our progress. |
